Morning Cup of Stimulus: Bridges to Nowhere?
The search for the stimulus package's Bridge to Nowhere is on. CNN weighs in with a diagonal bridge that will connect two campuses at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Wa. Meanwhile, a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel analysis found that the vast majority of Wisconsin bridges slated for funding carry fewer than 1,000 vehicles a day. One bridge awarded $426,000 gets fewer than 10 cars a day.
It may not be too late to add stuff to the stimulus package. President Obama said yesterday that he wants to work with Congress to trim the stimulus and make room for a proposed voucher that would allow drivers to trade-in "old, less fuel-efficient cars and purchase cleaner cars."
Project of the day: New York's wish list includes a $234 million request to reconstruct the boardwalk at Coney Island.
