ProPublica Honored With Two Awards From the Society of Professional Journalists
The Society of Professional Journalists has recognized two ProPublica investigations with its 2009 Sigma Delta Chi Awards for excellence in journalism.
Choosing from over 1,300 entries, the judges gave Abrahm Lustgarten, Joaquin Sapien, and Sabrina Shankman an award for investigative reporting in the “online reporting” category for their work on “Buried Secrets: Gas Drilling’s Environmental Threat,” a series of stories about natural gas drilling.
SPJ also gave Sheri Fink an award for magazine writing in the “magazines/national circulation” category for “The Deadly Choices at Memorial,” about decisions at a New Orleans hospital in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The story was published in collaboration with The New York Times Magazine.
Congratulations to all of the 2009 Sigma Delta Chi Award winners.
