ProPublica Wins Overseas Press Club Award
Today, the Overseas Press Club announced that ProPublica's T. Christian Miller along with Doug Smith of The Los Angeles Times and freelance journalist Pratap Chatterjee received the Online Journalism Award for "best web coverage of international affairs" for their Disposable Army series.
The judges called the story "a remarkable piece of investigative journalism" and said "if not for this thoroughly reported and well-written series, the true plight of the civilian contractors who have been injured or killed in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan may not have come to light."
There were 436 entries to this year's OPC competition, which culminates with a black-tie event tonight in New York City.
"Courage, integrity and perceptiveness are the hallmarks of the distinguished reports that the OPC winners deliver from the world’s most dangerous hotspots," said OPC President Allan Dodds Frank in a prepared statement.
ProPublica congratulates all the winners. A full list can be found here: OPC Awards.
