Stimulus Spending Hits $225 Billion

(ProPublica)

The federal government is within a bureaucratic eyelash of spending the first third of its stimulus dollars. According to the latest from Recovery.gov, federal agencies have now paid out $141 billion in stimulus money. Combined with the $84 billion in tax cuts issued at last count (PDF), nearly 29 percent of the stimulus package has now entered the U.S. economy. That adds up to $225 billion, which is $5 billion more than last week. That’s just about average for the weekly stimulus spending we've been tracking.
