Texas’ Stimulus Haul Is Spread Thin
Today's roundup of stimulus coverage:
When it comes to stimulus payouts, big states finish last, reports the Dallas Morning News. According to its analysis, Texas' share of stimulus funds received so far averages out to about $533 per person, ranking it 49th among all states. Lawmakers there blame their smaller portion on funding formulas written by lawmakers from small states. But Texas is also a "victim of its own thrift," the paper reports: It stands to receive less federal aid because it spends less of its own money on various programs.
Tech companies are beefing up staffs and helping utilities fill out applications as they pursue the $4.5 billion of stimulus funds aimed at smart-grid technology, reports The Wall Street Journal. It's a cutthroat business, though, with grant proposals asking for a total of three times the amount of money actually available.
Utah's newly relaunched recovery tracking site is up and running, reports the AP. We’ve been tracking all states’ stimulus reporting here.
