As we approach year-end, we're again taking stock of our work here at ProPublica. That includes hearing from you, our readers, about what you want more of, and what we should do better.

Would you take our quick survey?

The survey is anonymous. Our goal is your feedback on our journalism.

P.S. We've also recently been included in a new program called Survey Monkey Contribute. Each time you do a survey, ProPublica will get a 50-cent donation from Survey Monkey. A sign-up follows the survey.

Took the survey, happy to help with data collection :)

One minor demographic point - you should have a third option on the gender question, either a “prefer not to say” or other or trans* or some other choice for those who identify outside male/female.

Investigative reporting has declined in the main-stream media, apparently a service that commercial media can no longer afford to provide.  Thanks for taking up the slack. You provide a service that is essential to a functioning democracy.

Connect the anti-democratic impulses of the powerful with misleading, self-serving lobbying, PR, propaganda and BS.

Alex Carey’s career was cut short- but his “Taking The Risk out Democracy” is required reading for any investigative reporter.

Many fascinating “uncovers”.  Keep it up.

Glad to have you.  I recommend you to others.

Allow me to plug MILITARY RELIGIOUS FREEDOM FOUNDATION
run by Mikey Weinstein, which fights for the rights of military personnel to not be persecuted by Evangelical command personnel.  Go to MRFF.org
to read some horror stories—mostly from Christians, but also Jews and Muslims and atheists.

I love you people!! You’re filling the investigative journalism hole left by Bill Moyers when he retired!

Did ProPublica contribute to CBS’s “60 Minutes” program last week when Steve Kroft gave his excellent presentation on the failure to prosecute those responsible for the mortgage/banking crisis?

As others have commented, I’m glad to have found this place—since there was nowhere on the survey, I found you in Creative Commons’s “The Power of Open” e-book that someone happened to send me.

The point I knew the mainstream was a lost cause was the aftermath of the bank bailouts.  They interviewed local Congressthings, happily swallowing their line about necessity and all that.  Then, a couple weeks later in a local election, a long-term incumbent was voted out.  He, they chased into the parking lot after his concession speech to ask the little old man how he felt about losing and refusing to accept a polite “no comment.”

For that, they’ll dig deep.  For the alleged near-collapse of the economy?  Oh, that’s somebody else’s problem.

So after years of watching “news” become (literal) song and dance numbers, standup routines, corporate press releases or outright product advertisements, celebrity gossip, and the same crappy “viral videos” every idiot I know is already e-mailing me and I’m trying to avoid, I’m thrilled that someone is actually putting in the work to report news.

You’ve got to get rid of GE and NBC backing you. How are you going to get around that? GE and others and their gadolinium metal injected into people for MRI scans? When is the FDA going to tell the public what they are being injected with for the metal for the magnets in the MRI scan? When? What about TC99, a nuclear waste product in medications and other nuclear scans, like cardiolyte? They have no human biological purpose. MRI “dyes” wreak havoc on the body with latent symptoms, see mri side effects and gadolinium side effects. Do you know your eGFR, kidney function? Bet you don’t.

Janet, GE no longer owns NBC; they sold it to Comcast.  And here’s our coverage of the very issue about which you’re concerned:
http://www.propublica.org/series/general-electric-omniscan

I had high hopes for impartial investigative journalism from ProPublica at the beginning but it has slid to the Left on some (not all) of its stories and this concerns me.

I am a fiscal conservative and environmentalist. We should not be spending trillions to be the world’s police force. I worry about fracking and pipelines further despoiling our land.  I do NOT worry about the ‘1%’.  As Lincoln said, ‘Making the rich poor will not make the poor rich.”

I contribute money to Public Television because they are generally fair and balanced but not a penny goes to NPR which is so biased and liberal it has become the publicly supported left Fox News of radio.

Please,ProPublica, keep your reporting fair and unbiased and that includes what you choose to report on.

I tried to donate but I couldln’t figure out how to use my American Express card.  Please advise me.

Thank you for the outstanding coverage. Without ProPublica, America would be weaker.

I would love you to do a piece on Grover Norquist. He, of course, is a shill for the oligarchs. He came into prominence under the Reagan administration, but I think most Americans do not even begin to realize who pays him and what their purposes are to corrupt the political process. My list also includes Stephen Moore, WSJ and founder of The Club for Growth, who is constantly brought before pundits as a representative for endless tax cuts and “smaller government” which translates into lower taxes on the rich and less regulation and oversight on their businesses. In other words, a return to the Roaring Twenties when insider trading and crony capitalism was the norm.

Why won’t ProPublica cover the overwhelming evidence that proves multiple insurance companies endanger lives in five different types of insurance.

Here’s part of the evidence I’ve posted at http://www.treasonevidence.blogspot.com

“Metlife and its henchmen” is an exact quote written by U.S. District Judge Richard Enslen in a Disability case that is linked later.

WFAA - TV in Dallas wrote this about Workers Comp :

“a remarkable number of Texans committed suicide because they could no longer endure the pain caused by their injuries and they had been repeatedly turned down for worker’s comp care. Some insurance companies send peer review doctors medical files “stripped” of records important to the possible approval of workers’ comp claims.”

** During the time period of the suicides AIG rigged billions of dollars in bids to increase sales of Workers Comp policies; No one was prosecuted !!

This Spring I was contacted by an Iraq War Zone Contractor who had his leg, fingers and toes blown off, and many other injuries from a car bomb blast. Here are exact quotes :

“The Sheriff repossessed my wheelchair because CNA Global Insurance stopped payment on the check that they issued to the suppliers and my life really started spiraling out of control”

“I am sleeping on the floor on a mattress in the living room with my Night care Assistant sitting on a chair next to my mattress. I have to use a bucket and a bottle to urinate in the evenings.”

When patients file claims on these policies their lives are often destroyed, while at the same time MetLife, Unum, Prudential and AIG insurance have all rigged bids to increase their sales of Health and/or Workers Comp policies as seen at : http://www.bidriggingandhealthcarefraud.blogspot.com

(1)  Quotes from Numerous Federal Court Judges Prove Insurance Company Doctors’ ignore life threatening medical conditions including Brain lesions and Multiple Sclerosis, cardiac conditions of many patients, and a foot that a new mother broke in 5 places.
Multiple Judges prove MetLife is also very fond of endangering Psychological claimants lives !!

Obama and Bush’s DOL and DOJ Directors have seen this evidence but will do nothing to stop these crimes even though the patients may die before their case is heard by the Courts !!!!

The Judges quotes can be seen at the following website :

http://www.deadlyorganizedcrimes.blogspot.com

(2) Multiple Professor’s quotes prove many insurers are destroying the lives of very sick patients !!

The quotes include John Marshall Law School Professor Mark Debofsky writing :

“empirical evidence is now available that shows insurers operating under ERISA have systematically engaged in the wrongful denial of claims. Cases of abusive benefit denials involving other disability insurers abound.

(3) Three Judges’ Prove Lawyers Lie In Court To Deny Very Sick Patients Claims

(4) Violations of Seven Laws Repeatedly

Insurance companies are ignoring medical evidence while they make hundreds of billions of dollars because they have agreed to the fiduciary laws under U.S. Title 29 1104 which mandates :

“ a fiduciary shall discharge his duties with respect to a plan solely in the interest of the participants”

“with care, skill, prudence, and diligence”

(4) Similar crimes are also being committed against severely injured War Zone Contractors.

Here are quotes from a ProPublica.org article :

“CNA’s failure to pay out benefits underscores the continuing problems with the Defense Base Act, essentially the workers compensation system for overseas federal contractors.”

“Workers fought long battles for medical care, including such things as prosthetic devices and treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. The Labor Department seldom took action to enforce the law.

I also have evidence of Wachovia laundering $378 billion for the Mexican Drug Cartels and no one was prosecuted by Obama’s DOJ and SEC.

Plus, a MetLife executive and attorney made large contributions to Obama and then signed non prosecution agreements for bid rigging to increase sales of health policies, but at the same time nothing is being done about Doctors’ paid by MetLife ignoring life threatening medical conditions including Brain lesions and Multiple Sclerosis, cardiac conditions of many patients, and a foot that a new mother broke in 5 places.

You can see this evidence that was filed in Federal Court and sent certified to President Obama and his top Directors by going to : http://www.obamadrugmurdersconnection.blogspot.com

Bush’s administration also ignored the evidence. Multiple surgeries kept me from documenting as much on Bush. My vision probs from right eye cancer and left eye surgery have caused me to have three more accidents in the last month.

Thousands of lives are being destroyed every year and this is exactly the type of story ProPublica’s mission statement indicates you will cover.

I made an error in my comment above which omits the first paragraph listed below :

Thank you for helping the War Zone contractors, but the same insurance company crimes are destroying the lives of many injured workers and disabled Americans, and citizens filing health care claims as evidenced at at http://www.treasonevidence.blogspot.com

ProPublica’s mission statement is :

“To expose abuses of power and betrayals of the public trust by government, business, and other institutions, using the moral force of investigative journalism to spur reform through the sustained spotlighting of wrongdoing.”

I would really like to know why ProPublica will not cover Obama and Bush contributors endangering lives in five different types of insurance including :

(1) Mass suicides of injured workers while AIG rigged bids to increase sales of Workers Comp policies

(2) Doctor’s paid by MetLife and other insurers ignoring Multiple Sclerosis, Brain lesions, cardiac conditions of many patients and much more, while at the same time MetLife and other insurers rigged bids to increase sales of these policies as evidenced in the links seen in my first comment.

Yes, I’ve taken the survey. Keep up good works while continuing your selfless journey with great guys! I will be there too. And thanks without bound.

Wise parents learn from their children, Smart children learn from their parents mistakes.  True democracy is the peacefull transition of power!  “Term limits” are essential for all forms of fair governance. Absolute power, corrupts absolutely!
I would like to see more stories on the “Junk Science” of our times, that we have to deal with, imposed by past generations, and contemporary “Junk Science” that future generations will have to contend with.

Pro Publica is essential to my daily reading. Thanks for the forum to read, express !

@ Giborah

The website you provided does not exist. I believe you meant:

http://www.militaryreligiousfreedom.org/

It is annoying to write a comment that includes embedded URLs (as I often do, being neither a fan of plagiarism nor expectant that people will just “take my word for it” - that is a Fox talking head kind of arrogance…which, strangely enough, seems to work with their audience) linking additional data or references only to have it disappear into the cracks between the “pipes”.

I understand that you must be wary of spamming…but I have noted a tendency for those whose political leanings…slant, you might say…to the right to fill a comment with “real-looking” numbers and quotes which are entirely manufactured, and the best way to combat that type of propaganda is to refute them with well-known and respected sources.

Can you not tell your site programmers to maintain a list of “approved” sources for “instant” comparison?  Is wonderful things you can do with databases these days; a source review by whoever moderates now shouldn’t require those same external sites having to be approved over and over and over again each time a different page from such a site is used in a new comment.

For example, I would not expect a link to http://www.propublica.org to require review…

thanks for the en-depth look into the 9-11 conspiracy,,,it seems that the top wrong doers only have to dodge media bullets for a year till the media dies down, with Pro Publica on there tails maybe they’ll be held accountable!!!
I would like to read more on the Fema death camps and the 9 sectors..that our country will be divided into ????

Me too, would like to know about Fema death camps etc. before secrets of 9-11 and some heinous private plans of political assassinations become public.
Propublica may help educate and make millions learned world-wide because Media-serving style is changing.

I learned of your publication through Rachel Maddow MSNBC when Pro Publica was covering a topic that was not being covered by the mainstream news. PP seems to be looking into issues more in depth and serving a role no longer filled by the news.

Difficult to make a comment on the site. Get error meassages without clarification.

Dear DavidG, may I humbly ask you: whose publication you are ref. to?  If you know abt Fema death Camp facts, would you kindly educate others?

Survey closed? Sorry I missed it, but would like to comment. If it weren’t for ProPublica’s reporting I suspect we would all be in the dark on many issues. My Xmas wish is that ProPublica would keep the heat on Congress Re: Insider stock trading, the crooks the still sit in high rises collecting fat bonuses & keep naming names & publishing the Illegal/legal pilfering of this country. 1 in 2 of us are now in poverty…How can we make a change if Congress keeps evading the issues & denying any wrong doing. The gridlock might be a blessing considering what laws/changes they’ve been making at our expense. Keep up the Good Work ProPublica, thank you from a disenfranchised voter.

I am happy to realize that a many wise persons are joining in evolving contemporary medias like pioneering ProPublica’s. There will always exist rich and poor guys but only the thougts of wise minds -next year may guarantee that each hard working global citizen will be out of poverty in all corner of the ensuing new world of men-made better policies and impartial regulations.
