Money Well Spent Event

Video streaming by Ustream

As the Republican presidential candidates have questioned the effectiveness of the stimulus, ProPublica and the Tenement Museum will host a discussion to find out if the $825 billion Recovery Act was “Money Well Spent?”

On Monday, February 13 at 6:30pm, ProPublica’s Michael Grabell will be joined by Vice President Biden’s former economic advisor Jared Bernstein and national correspondent for the New York Times Michael Cooper to talk about whether the stimulus was worthwhile. The event will take place at the Tenement Museum (103 Orchard Street at Delancey).

Grabell has been reporting on the stimulus for ProPublica since the initial recovery bill was introduced. Our site also tracks every stimulus dollar spent in every county in America and shows how quickly government agencies have been getting money out the door.

Grabell’s new book about the stimulus, “Money Well Spent?,” will be available on January 31 and there will be a book signing immediately after the conversation.

Jared Bernstein is a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and he served as a senior economist for Biden as the stimulus project was being developed.  Bernstein has been published and featured on numerous media outlets and he also hosts JaredBernsteinBlog.com.

Michael Cooper is a veteran member of the New York Times staff, previously serving as a political reporter and Albany bureau chief before becoming a national correspondent for the paper.  He’s done extensive reporting on how stimulus programs have worked in states.

Video of the event will be streamed via Facebook, and U-Stream. The talk is free and open to the public. Please let us know if you’re planning to attend.
