ProPublica Named a Finalist for 7 Deadline Club Awards

The Deadline Club Awards, one of the oldest and most respected journalism contests in New York City, has named ProPublica a finalist in seven categories:

  • Newspaper or Digital Local News Reporting
    "After the Flood" - Al Shaw, Theodoric Meyer, Jeff Larson and Christie Thompson
  • Business Feature
    "Life and Death in Assisted Living" - A.C. Thompson and Jonathan Jones
  • Business Investigative Reporting
    "Overdose" - Jeff Gerth and T. Christian Miller
  • Science, Technology, Medical or Environmental Reporting
    "The Prescribers" - Tracy Weber, Charles Ornstein and Jennifer LaFleur
  • Multimedia, Interactive Graphics and Animation
    "Overdose" - Jeff Gerth, T. Christian Miller, Al Shaw, Lena Groeger and Krista Kjellman Schmidt
  • Digital Innovation
    "The Prescribers" - Tracy Weber, Charles Ornstein, Jennifer LaFleur, Jeff Larson and Lena Groeger
  • Minority Focus
    "Temp Land" - Michael Grabell

The Deadline Club is the largest chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. This year, its awards contest drew a record 547 entries that were published or broadcast in 2013 by news organizations with offices in the New York City area. The winners will be announced at the Annual Awards Dinner on May 19 at the Waldorf Astoria, where the keynote speaker will be CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker.
