ProPublica’s Presidential Pardons Series Selected as Finalist for Goldsmith Award
ProPublica is proud to announce that our series on presidential pardons, co-published with the Washington Post, has been selected as a finalist for the Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting.
The series, led by senior reporter Dafna Linzer and director of computer-assisted reporting Jennifer LaFleur, showed for the first time that white criminals are four times as likely as minorities to receive a presidential pardon, even when ignoring other factors like the severity of the crime. These findings prompted the Justice Department to launch a review and ignited a national debate.
This is the fourth straight year ProPublica has been eligible and honored as a finalist for the award. The winner of the Goldsmith Prize will be announced on March 6. Best of luck to all the finalists.
