Rob Weychert to Join ProPublica as Editorial Experience Designer

ProPublica announced today that Rob Weychert has been appointed its editorial experience designer, a new role for the nonprofit newsroom’s growing design and production team. Weychert will work to advance the website’s design and user experience, collaborating directly with editors and reporters to find engaging new ways to tell stories.

An outspoken advocate for user-centered design and the open web, Weychert helped establish the Philadelphia office of the web design shop Happy Cog. He has also served as an interaction designer at Harmonix, best known for the Rock Band series of video games.

Most recently, Weychert has spent the past five years as an independent consultant for clients including Macmillan, MailChimp, Pew Charitable Trusts and Wiley. He is also currently the print producer for the A Book Apart series of web design publications. He will start at ProPublica on Nov. 30.

“I am truly honored to join the ProPublica team, which is doing some of the finest and most important work in journalism today,” Weychert said. “I know I’ll learn a lot from them, and I look forward to helping their work have even more impact.”

“I could not be happier to have a designer of Rob’s caliber on board,” said David Sleight, ProPublica’s design director. “Beyond sheer talent and depth of experience, Rob brings a level of nuance, intelligence and insight to editorial design that few can claim.”
