Sebastian Rotella’s Triple Crossing

To celebrate the release of his new book, ProPublica senior reporter Sebastian Rotella shares a list of his ten favorite books about crime, spies, cops and crooks.  From Richard Price’s Clockers to John Le Carre’s The Little Drummer Girl, Rotella explains why each one means so much to him.  “One thing they have in common is authenticity,” he writes.  “The writing has the power that comes from great research.  The details ring true, even minor characters come fully alive, and you can learn a lot about the workings of secret worlds and subcultures, from the crack trade to tabloid journalism.”

Rotella’s new book – Triple Crossing – was published today by Mullholland Books.  It’s described as “a gritty, fast-paced thriller about the criminal underworld at work along both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border and a young cop who goes undercover to bring it down.”  Publisher’s Weekly raves that the book is “A superb debut … and unflinching views of a double agent’s harrowing life, a violence-drenched Mexican jail, and the wild border areas complement the provocative plot.”
