Brent Gardner-Smith was an intern in the ProPublica communications department from March 1 to July 2, 2010. He took a leave of absence from his reporting job at the Aspen Daily News and came to ProPublica as part of his master's degree program at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, where he is studying nonprofit online investigative news organizations.

ProPublica reporters T. Christian Miller and A.C. Thompson have won best-of-category awards from the Investigative Reporters and Editors Awards. Miller won for his reporting on injured civilian contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Thompson won for reporting on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
