Three ProPublica Finalists in Scripps Howard Competition

The Scripps Howard Foundation has selected three ProPublica projects as finalists in its 2014 competition honoring the best journalism across 15 categories:

  • Losing Ground, a yearlong investigation into Louisiana's rapidly disappearing coastline led by ProPublica's Al Shaw and Brian Jacobs, with Bob Marshall from The Lens, was a finalist in environmental reporting.
  • Unforgiven, an in-depth look into the relentless tactics companies use to pursue consumer debt in America, was a finalist in the business/economics reporting category. The lead reporter, ProPublica's Paul Kiel, won in this category in 2012 for his series on the nation's foreclosure crisis.
  • And The Secret Recordings of Carmen Segarra, ProPublica reporter Jake Bernstein's joint project with This American Life offering a rare look inside the New York Fed, was a finalist in radio in-depth coverage.
