Watch Live at 6:30 ET: ProPublica, New America NYC Host Discussion on the State of FOIA at 50

Today ProPublica, in partnership with New America NYC, is co-hosting a discussion at New York City’s Civic Hall to mark the 50th anniversary of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Entitled “Access Granted: How to Get Government Secrets,” a panel of journalists, attorneys, and former government officials will explore FOIA’s successes and failures, how it can be best used to shine needed sunlight on the powerful, as well as the roadblocks in its way.

This event will be webcast live today starting at 6:30 p.m. EDT. Watch here, and follow the conversation online using #FOIAat50.

Moderated by ProPublica editor-in-chief Stephen Engelberg, the panel includes Sarah Cohen, reporter and editor for The New York Times; Talia Buford, reporter for the Center for Public Integrity; Brett Max Kaufman, staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union; and Rebecca Williams, senior advisor for Johns Hopkins Center for Government Excellence.

Tune in here, and join the conversation by following #FOIAat50, @ProPublica and @NewAmericaNYC.
