Journalism in the Public Interest

Awards and Honors

ProPublica was awarded the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for public service, the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for explanatory reporting, the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for national reporting, a 2010 Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting, two Emmy Awards in 2015 and a Peabody Award in 2013. These are just seven of a number of honors of which we’re very proud, all received since we began publishing in June 2008. Here is a chronological list:

2012

Scripps Howard Award for Business/Economic Reporting

ProPublica’s Paul Kiel and Olga Pierce won the Scripps Howard Award in Business/Economics Reporting for their “Foreclosure Crisis” series.

Scripps Howard Award Finalist for Public Service

ProPublica’s Charles Ornstein, Tracy Weber and Dan Nguyen were finalists for the Scripps Howard Award in Public Service for their “Dollars for Docs” series.

Society for News Design’s Best of Digital Design Awards

ProPublica’s Opportunity Gap news application won a Society for News Design Award of Excellence in Data-Driven Projects.

Society for News Design’s Best of Digital Design Awards

ProPublica won a Society for News Design Award of Excellence in Mobile Experience.

Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting Honorable Mention

ProPublica’s Olga Pierce, Jeff Larson and Lois Beckett were awarded the Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting Honorable Mention for their series on redistricting.

Society of American Business Editors and Writers Award for Investigative Reporting

ProPublica’s Paul Kiel and Olga Pierce were awarded the Society of American Business Editors and Writers Best in Business Award for Investigative Reporting, digital division, for their reporting on the foreclosure crisis.

Goldsmith Prize Finalist

ProPublica’s Dafna Linzer and Jennifer LaFleur were named finalists for the 2012 Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting for their coverage of presidential pardons, with the Washington Post.

Investigative Reporters and Editors Philip Meyer Award Finalist

ProPublica’s Jennifer LaFleur along with our partner, the Seattle Times, won third place in the IRE’s annual Philip Meyer Award for a joint project on foreclosures.

Netexplo Award

ProPublica’s “Dollars for Docs” project won a 2012 Netexplo Award for most promising use of digital technology.
