Journalism in the Public Interest

Awards and Honors

ProPublica was awarded the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting, the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting and a 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting, two Emmy Awards in 2015 and a Peabody Award in 2013. These are just five of a number of honors of which we’re very proud, all received since we began publishing in June 2008. Here is a chronological list:

National Association of Real Estate Editors Journalism Award

ProPublica’s Jennifer LaFleur, along with the Seattle Times, won the National Association of Real Estate Editors First Place, Team Award for her coverage of foreclosures.

I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence

ProPublica’s A.C. Thompson won the 2011 I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence.

American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award Honorable Mention

ProPublica’s Dafna Linzer, Chisun Lee and Krista Kjellman Schmidt were awarded the 2011 American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award honorable mention for newspapers for their coverage of Guantanamo detention.

Goldsmith Prize Finalist

ProPublica’s Jake Bernstein and Jesse Eisinger, along with partners Planet Money and This American Life, were named a finalist for the 2011 Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting for their coverage of Wall Street before the financial crisis.

John Jay Prize in Criminal Justice Reporting, Second Place

ProPublica, along with partners Frontline and the New Orleans Times-Picayune, received second place in the 2011 John Jay/H.F. Guggenheim Excellence in Criminal Justice Reporting Awards for its “Law & Disorder” series.
