ProPublica and 60 Minutes Investigation to Air Sunday

by Paul Kiel, ProPublica - June 19, 2008 2:45 pm EDT

As you can see at the upper right-hand corner of our homepage here, ProPublica's first investigation, a joint effort with 60 Minutes, will air Sunday night on CBS. The story focuses on Al-Hurra, the U.S. taxpayer-funded news network launched in 2004 to, as President Bush put it, "cut through the barriers of hateful propaganda" in the Arab world. As it turns out, it hasn't cut through (it has a very small audience) and at times has been indistinguishable from the hateful propaganda.

In addition to Sunday's broadcast, ProPublica reporter Dafna Linzer will also be publishing a series here, the first installment coming Sunday. So stay tuned.
