ProPublica Projects Nominated for 2012 Emmy Awards
For the second year in a row, three of ProPublica's projects with PBS Frontline have been nominated for Emmy Awards.
The Child Cases, featuring ProPublica's A.C. Thompson as the correspondent, is a nominee for Outstanding Investigative Journalism in a News Magazine. The documentary showed how child deaths are sometimes mistaken for murder based on flawed forensic findings – in some cases, putting innocent caretakers behind bars. The project has already won an IRE Award, a Deadline Club Award and was a runner up for the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism on children and families.
A Perfect Terrorist is a nominee for Outstanding Investigative Journalism – Long Form. The documentary traced the mysterious circumstances behind David Coleman Headley's rise from heroin dealer and U.S. government informant to plotter of the 2008 Mumbai attacks. ProPublica senior reporter Sebastian Rotella was the lead correspondent for the project, which won the Overseas Press Club Award for Best Online Coverage of an International Issue or Event in 2011.
Lastly, The Anthrax Files is a nominee for the same category, Outstanding Investigative Journalism – Long Form. The Frontline, ProPublica and McClatchy Newspapers project investigated the country's most notorious act of bioterrorism and how the man pegged as the mastermind behind it all might actually be innocent.
The winners of the 33rd Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be announced on October 1. You can see a full list of nominees here. Best of luck to our partners at Frontline.
