Afghanistan's ambassador to the United States feels he isn't having much luck pushing his country's agenda in Washington because he's being drowned out by paid lobbyists for India and Pakistan, according to a confidential memo (PDF) obtained by Mother Jones. The memo points to a Washington Post article about India's recent "diplomatic slam-dunk."

Also, HUD paid more than $1 million in rent subsidies on behalf of low-income tenants to a landlord who had never repaid $26.6 million in HUD loans, the Columbus Dispatch reports. The tale illustrates the minimal oversight many recipients of HUD funds receive, according to the paper. (The head of the HUD program says he was never told about the unpaid loans.)
