- The U.S. Justice Department and Iowa officials are investigating allegations of exploitation at a Texas company that shipped men with mental disabilities to Iowa to work in its turkey processing plant, reports the Des Moines Register. The men were typically woken up at 2:30 a.m. to get to work at Henry's Turkey Service, but were often "left with as little as $65 a month in salary" after housing expenses were taken out. One worker had $487 deducted in January to pay for his board in the workers' dilapidated bunkhouse, which was heated solely by space heaters and overrun with cockroaches, and cost the company just $600 a month.
