Photo of the Day: Chocolate Pudding

One of two one-ton masses of tarball material recovered south of Perdido Pass, Fla., by the crew of the lift boat Sailfish, on June 11, 2010. (Petty Officer 3rd Class John Walker, USCG)

Although it resembles one giant bowl of fudge, today's image isn't as tasty. It actually shows a one-ton pile of tarball material recovered off of the coast of Florida. And what exactly is tarball material? According to NOAA, tarballs are "remnants of oil spills" that when mixed with water form what "looks like chocolate pudding."

Check out our slideshow of photos from the Gulf oil spill, which we update daily.
