ProPublica Wins Two ‘Best of Digital Design’ Awards

The Society of News Design honored ProPublica with two awards for its news applications. The first award was in information graphics, the largest category judged, for ProPublica’s Dialysis Facility Tracker – an app that allows users to compare clinics on such measures as patient survival, infection control and hospitalization rates. The second award was a part of the judges’ ‘special recognition’ category, which recognized ProPublica for “defining the design language of data-driven news apps.”

“ProPublica has established a consistent set of expectations for a new breed of storytelling. Granular, permalinkable data, clear hierarchies, simple but effective visualization and transparent engagement with its readers and partner organizations underlie all these projects and set the standard,” the judges wrote.
