Brandeis, Marquette, Western Washington and Northwestern Students Team Up With Project Intern

What's almost as exciting as the fact that spring is nearly here? Project Intern has several updates on our effort to collect information on the cost of internships for academic credit across the country!

We launched our crowd-sourced Price of an Internship database in December with information on journalism internships at 20 schools — today, we’ve added three more schools (Ball State, Brandeis and Marquette, I’m looking at you) and enlisted the help of more than 50 new volunteers. We’re working to verify details submitted to us about several more schools, and at Savannah State University, a professor is even using our app as a learning exercise for her entry-level journalism students.

Four student publications have also come onboard as project partners: The Justice at Brandeis, The Marquette Tribune, The Western Front at Western Washington University and The Chicago Bureau at Northwestern University. These student journalists will provide us information on internships for three new majors at each school, and some have already published articles on their findings. If you work for an on-campus student publication and are interested in becoming a project partner, find all the details you need here.

Another important update: version 2.0 of our app now allows us to collect internship information on any schools or major (previously, we were only able to accept information about journalism schools). Check our database to see if your school and major are in our app.

WHAT WE STILL NEED

MORE SCHOOLS: Our goal is to collect information on for-credit internships at 100 schools by the end of the spring semester. If we don’t yet have information on your school, you can help this project grow by adding information on the school and at least one major here.

MORE MAJORS: If your school is already in our database, you can help by giving us information on internships for credit in your major. At most schools, individual departments are responsible for setting their own internship policies. We want to know about all of them.

REVIEWS: One of the most important questions we’re trying to answer with this project is “Does a school’s oversight of unpaid internships match what is outlined in their policy?” You can help by rating and reviewing your experience interning for academic credit. Your answer will be public and linked to a social media or Disqus account of your choice, but you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable.
