Citigroup’s chief financial officer said in a conference call yesterday that he couldn’t discuss the specifics of the bank’s talks with regulators because they are confidential.

Also, in the wake of December’s coal ash spill in Tennessee, which flooded 300 acres with toxic sludge, two environmental groups released a study showing that people in 34 states who live near coal ash sites with inadequate lining have a higher risk of cancer, reports McClatchy. Coal ash sites aren’t subject to federal regulation, but EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson has said that deciding whether to change that would be a priority.
