Investigation Into Etan Patz Case Now Available as Kindle Single

The story of Etan Patz is one of the country's most famous missing child cases, one that has both frustrated and exhausted police ever since the six-year-old disappeared in 1979. With a trial set to begin this spring after a much-heralded breakthrough in 2012, ProPublica is offering a Kindle Single version of its in-depth look at the case -- or lack thereof -- against the man accused of killing him.

In the investigation, originally published last month, Joaquin Sapien and Hanna Trudo reported that law enforcement officials interrogated the suspect in the case, Pedro Hernandez, for seven hours -- unrecorded -- before he formally confessed to killing Patz. However, he offered no motive, and the details in Hernandez's confession to police do not match the few accepted facts of Patz's disappearance or Hernandez's previous statements to others.

The Kindle Single also features a new introduction by the editor on the piece, Joe Sexton, and a timeline of the case, from Patz's disappearance to the charges against Hernandez.
