  • A now-closed police crime lab in Detroit mishandled evidence in at least 147 cases, a county prosecutor told the Detroit Free Press. These cases are just “the tip of the iceberg,” Wayne County’s prosecutor said. The Free Press estimates that “potentially thousands of cases… are at risk of unraveling.”
  • Immigrants caught up in the U.S.’s detention system face “especially tough bail conditions” and a “disregard or bending of the rules regarding how long immigrants can be detained,” the AP reports. Hundreds of immigrants without criminal records have been held for at least a year, according to an AP analysis. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says detention ensures that immigrants attend court hearings and leave the U.S. when ordered.
