ProPublica announced Wednesday that Sophie Greenspan has been hired as a visual designer. She will work closely with teams across the organization including audience, engagement, communications and development.

Greenspan previously ran an independent design studio where she collaborated with civic and art organizations such as Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Department of Public Imagination in Boston. Her work centers on social impact, urbanism, speculative futures, sustainability and defense of public space.

“Sophie’s background with community-oriented organizations make her a great fit for ProPublica’s work,” said Allen Tan, ProPublica’s design director. “She has a gift for balancing the serious with the playful, and we’re excited to welcome her.”

“I’m honored to be joining ProPublica at a time when investigative journalism has never been more important,” Greenspan said. “I look forward to helping to increase the organization’s reach through an elevated visual brand, so that larger audiences can benefit from their incredible reporting.”
