The 11,000 residents of Crestwood, Ill., drank tap water laced with toxic chemicals linked to cancer for more than 20 years, even though local officials knew about the contamination, reports the Chicago Tribune. The contaminated well was shut off in December 2007, after a routine EPA test, but EPA and state officials still haven’t notified residents. EPA and the Illinois attorney general are looking into it.

Also, an NSA wiretap picked up Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) telling a suspected Israeli agent that she would push the Justice Department to reduce espionage-related charges against two officials at AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobby, in exchange for help getting her appointed chair of the Intelligence Committee, “two former senior national security officials” told Congressional Quarterly. A spokesperson for Harman said the allegations are “outrageous” and “have no basis in fact.”
