The Illinois Press Association recognized Molly Parker, of The Southern Illinoisan, with the first place Knight Chair Award for sustained investigative reporting, for her work covering public housing conditions in Cairo, Illinois. Parker also won first place in the news reporting series category for her reporting on housing issues in southern Illinois and beyond. These were projects produced in collaboration with ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network.
