ProPublica and partners received several honors at the 2026 National Headliner Awards.

“Alaska’s Crumbling Schools,” by Local Reporting Network fellow Emily Schwing, won first place in the radio network feature, human interest story or documentary category. The story was reported in collaboration with KYUK and NPR.

“Slow Justice,” by Kyle Hopkins, Marc Lester, Lucas Waldron and Zisiga Mukulu, received second place in the newspaper public service not in top 20 media market category. The story was reported in collaboration with the Anchorage Daily News.

“Helene’s Unheard Warnings,” by Jennifer Berry Hawes, Cassandra Garibay and Mollie Simon, received second place in the online investigative reporting for digital website on a local issue category.

“Seeking Death,” by Nicole Santa Cruz and Dave Biscobing, received second place in the TV local public service category. The story was reported in collaboration with ABC15.

“NIL at the University of Illinois,” by Jodi S. Cohen and Stacy St. Clair, received third place in the newspaper sports news writing by an individual or team category. The story was reported in collaboration with the Chicago Tribune.
