The Online News Association has named ProPublica and partner newsrooms as finalists for 15 2025 Online Journalism Awards, which honor excellence in digital journalism around the world.
ProPublica is a finalist for the general excellence in online journalism, medium newsroom category.
“Del Rio, Texas: How a Race for Sheriff Became a Referendum on Immigration,” a collaboration with The Texas Tribune, and “The Rise and Fall of Terrorgram,” a collaboration with FRONTLINE, are finalists in the digital video storytelling, long form, large newsroom category.
“The New Immigration,” a collection of short documentaries in partnership with The Texas Tribune, is a finalist in the digital video storytelling, series, large newsroom category.
“Selling a Mirage: The Delusion of ‘Advanced’ Plastic Recycling” and “Unreasonable Risk” are finalists in the excellence in science reporting, small/medium newsroom category.
“Swept Away: When Cities Take Belongings From Vulnerable Residents” is a finalist in the excellence in social justice reporting, portfolio category and the Al Neuharth Innovation in Investigative Journalism Award, medium newsroom.
“Zero Trust: Inside Microsoft’s Cybersecurity Failures” is a finalist in the excellence in technology reporting, media newsroom category.
“The New Immigration: How Recent Arrivals at the Border Have Changed the Country and Its Politics,” in partnership with The Texas Tribune, is a finalist in the explanatory reporting, large newsroom category.
“America’s Mental Barrier: How Insurers Interfere With Mental Health Care,” is a finalist in the explanatory reporting, large newsroom category and the Gather Award in Community-Centered Journalism, overall excellence, urban and national focus.
“He Was Convicted of Killing His Baby. The DA’s Office Says He’s Innocent, but That Might Not Be Enough.” in partnership with The New York Times Magazine, is a finalist in the feature, large newsroom category.
“Eat What You Kill” is a finalist in the feature, medium newsroom category.
“Life of the Mother” is a finalist for the University of Florida Award in Investigative Data Journalism, small/medium newsroom.
