Alex Cuadros

I report on climate change and how people and institutions are responding to it.

Need to Get in Touch?

I welcome tips or documents about Trump administration climate policy or actions by private companies or institutions that may impact the climate.

What I Cover

I cover climate change and how people and institutions are responding to it, including the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, and corporations and their leaders. I’m particularly interested in the actions of influential individuals, from billionaires to scientists, making decisions that affect the climate.

My Background

I joined ProPublica in June 2025 after more than a decade and a half reporting from South America. I began my career as a freelancer in Bogotá, Colombia, before moving to São Paulo to become a Bloomberg staff reporter. I was one of the inaugural members of Bloomberg’s “billionaires team,” an experience that ultimately yielded my first book, “Brazillionaires,” which was a Financial Times best book of 2016. My second book, “When We Sold God’s Eye,” is based on six years of immersive reporting and research on an Indigenous group known as the Cinta Larga in the Brazilian Amazon. It was a finalist for the California Book Awards.

Along the way, I’ve also written for The New York Times Magazine, Harper’s, The Atlantic, The Washington Post and The New Yorker, among others. My work has been supported by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, the Fund for Investigative Journalism and the Alicia Patterson Foundation.
