What I Cover
I write about a wide range of issues in the Midwest. I gravitate toward stories involving abuses of power, government secrecy and the exploitation of vulnerable people.
My Background
I have spent nearly two decades uncovering stories about abuse and exploitation in Minnesota. Before joining ProPublica, I worked for 10 years at The Minnesota Star Tribune, where I covered cops, courts and prisons, and later joined the newspaper’s investigations team. In 2020, I was part of a team of reporters that covered the killing of George Floyd and its aftermath. I began my career working for City Pages, a Minneapolis-based alt-weekly, where I wrote long-form stories on topics ranging from police brutality to sports.
