Molly Hensley-Clancy

I write about colleges and universities, student loans and the Trump administration’s oversight of higher education.

Have a Tip for a Story?

I’m interested in hearing from current and former employees at the Education and Justice departments about the Trump administration’s transformation of higher education and from college students and employees who experience or witness harm or injustice.

What I Cover

I write about higher education in America. I’m especially interested in stories about abuse and misconduct on college campuses — not only the elite colleges that dominate the news but on campuses across America, from community colleges to flagship state schools.

I am focusing particularly on how politics and the new policies of the Trump administration are affecting American colleges: the targeting of foreign students and professors; the elimination of diversity, equity and inclusion programs and affirmative action; changes to Title IX; the remaking of the student loan system; and the resurgence of the for-profit college industry.

My Background

I am an award-winning investigative reporter who has written about abuse, corruption and misconduct across higher education, sports and politics based in Washington, D.C.

As a reporter at BuzzFeed News, I investigated the stories of people deceived by for-profit colleges and told stories of misconduct by student loan servicers. My reporting revealed the story of an alleged visa mill that faked students’ grades.

I was previously a reporter at The Washington Post, where my stories about sexual and emotional abuse in professional women’s soccer led to the firing of two coaches and won an Investigative Reporters and Editors award for sports reporting.
