Just seven hours after the Tenement Museum put the finishing touches on its new building, ProPublica swooped in and hosted the inaugural event, a panel discussion on our "Dollars for Docs" investigation examining the close financial ties between physicians and pharmaceutical companies.
The event last night was the second Tenement Talk in our "Investigate This: Conversations With ProPublica" monthly series, and featured senior reporters Charles Ornstein and Tracy Weber. It was moderated by Dr. Marcia Angell, former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine and author of The Truth Behind the Drug Companies.
The trio specifically discussed how drug companies mask marketing efforts as educational dialogue, the industry obsession of promoting not only the medication but the illness it treats, and the overall lack of criminal investigations despite proof of misconduct time and time again. You can view the event in its entirety below.
ProPublica's next "Investigate This" Tenement Talk will be on Tuesday, December 13, and will feature reporter Paul Kiel and his work on the foreclosure crisis. More details to come as the date approaches.
