What I Do
I oversee reporters who cover the military, defense contracting, poverty and the Trump administration, and I advise editors on storytelling.
My Background
I joined ProPublica in 2017 after 17 years at Fortune. I’ve edited articles in many areas at ProPublica, including in our “Secret IRS Files” series, as well as stories about everything from cybercrime and medical-device fraud to education vouchers. An article I co-edited, “The Shadow President,” won a 2025 Polk award; another, “Fighting for Breath,” was part of a package on the Food and Drug Administration that was named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. A third, “The Landlord & the Tenant,” received a National Magazine Award in 2023, and others have been finalists for the National Magazine and Loeb awards. At Fortune, I was the recipient of Loeb Awards as both a reporter and editor and before that was a finalist for the Livingston Award.
